ABSTRACT

Every day in the United States 29 people die due to drunk drivers. The annual cost of alcohol-related crashes costs the United States more than 132 billion yearly. With our project, Safe Drive, we can decrease the number of people who die daily because of drunk driving. Insurance companies and local governments are able to spend less money on car accidents by investing in our product. Safe Drive will help to reduce the number of drunk drivers on the road. As soon as the driver enters the car, if the person has alcohol in their system the sensor will be able to detect their breath. When the sensor detects the alcohol, the car will not turn on. This will ensure that the driver can’t move the car, or begin driving. Since we can’t use a real car at this point in our project, we will be mimicking this idea. The push to start button on your car will be represented by an led and button. If the button is pressed but the led doesn’t turn on, that means the car isn’t on because the mq3 sensor detected alcohol. If the led turns on when the button is pressed, that means the car is on, It prevents the driver from getting in their car and hurting or killing themselves and innocent people. In the future, the government can make it mandatory to have our project on someone’s car if they have already been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. We are hopeful that the Safe Drive can save many lives.
